Liz
Sedler, President. Liz resides in Sandpoint, Idaho, where in the
past she manufactured rough sawn accoustic stringed instrument sound
boards and worked with instrument makers doing inlay and finish work.
For the past few years she has worked exclusively on conservation issues,
lately with a focus on state water quality (Clean Water Act) issues
and grizzly bear and bull trout (Endangered Species Act) issues in North
Idaho and Western Montana National Forests. She also serves on the board
of The Lands Council in Spokane WA.
Brian
Horejsi, Vice-President. Brian is a wildlife biologist with a doctorate
degree in behavioral ecology of large mammals. He has worked extensively
with grizzly and black bears, moose, caribou, bighorn and Dall sheep.
He makes his home near Calgary, Alberta. Brian founded the Speak Up
for Wildlife Foundation and has a long history as a conservation science
activist including a lengthy term as Vice President of the Alberta Wilderness
Association.
Mike
Bader, Secretary/Treasurer. Prior to becoming the co-founder of
Alliance for the Wild Rockies in 1988, Mike was a National Park Ranger
in Yellowstone National Park where he was involved in a wide array of
activities including grizzly bear management and research, and wildland
firefighting. He was also highly active in grassroots efforts to protect
the Rocky Mountain Front and the Badger-Two Medicine area from oil and
gas development. He is a frequent contributor to magazines, journals,
and newspapers on public lands and wildlife issues, having authored
dozens of articles. A graduate of the University of Montana with a B.S.
in Resource Conservation, his major professional interests are ecosystem
protection plans, grizzly bear research and management, and wildland
fire. Recreational interests include woodworking, music, sports, cross-country
skiing, backcountry hiking, and flyfishing.
Laura
Hoehn. Laura Hoehn began her volunteer efforts on behalf of the
Northern Rockies in Bozeman, Montana in 1992. While there, she joined
with members of the local Sierra Club group to secure the 1994 endorsement
of the national Sierra Club on behalf of the Northern Rockies Ecosystem
Protection Act. She has lobbied for NREPA in Washington, D.C. and has
travelled the Yellowstone region to speak on behalf of NREPA with AWR
staff members. In addition to serving on the AWR board, she served on
the Sierra Club Board of Directors from 1994-1997. She is a graduate
of the University of Oregon School of Law and recently completed clerkship
at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Laura is an attorney in San Francisco.
Carole
King. Carole King is best known as the first woman to capture the
grand slam of Grammys: Best Song, Record, Album, and Female Vocalist,
for her landmark album, Tapestry; and as a legendary songwriter who
has been inducted into the Songwriters' and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame.
But King has also been working on land conservation issues since the
early '80's and has been an active Board member of the Alliance for
the Wild Rockies since 1989. In that capacity King has worked to educate
members of Congress and the public about the importance of bills like
NREPA that protect entire ecosystems. In 1997 King co-founded the White
Cloud Council, to bring together and harmonize the efforts of land conservationists
from around the country, and to craft a bold unified vision for protection
and restoration of America's wildlands into the next millennium. King
continues to write prolifically, most recently contributing "Anyone
At All" to the soundtrack of the film, You've Got Mail.
Timothy Bechtold. Mr. Bechtold is a co-director of The Ecology
Center.
Stewart Brandborg. Mr. Brandborg is a former executive director
of The Wilderness Society and a key figure in passage of the 1964 Wilderness
Act and Alaska Lands Act.
Dr. John Craighead. Dr. Craighead is a world-renowned scientist
honored by The National Geographic Society. He pioneered grizzly bear
research and is founder of the Craighead Wildlife-Wildlands Institute.
Jim Dayton. Mr. Dayton is the founder of Wilderness Watch and
has several decades experience in the conservation movement.
Dr. Charles Jonkel. Dr. Jonkel is an internationally recognized
bear biologist with over 70 research papers on grizzly bear, polar bear,
and black bear. He is the founder of the International Wildlife Film
Festival.
Clif Merritt. Mr. Merritt was a national leader in The Wilderness
Society and is the founder of American Wildlands. He has been active
in conservation work for over 50 years.
Lance Olsen. Mr. Olsen is a founder of the Great Bear Foundation
and served as editor of Bear News. He is currently the publisher and
editor of Environomics.
Kathy Togni. Ms. Togni is an attorney with long experience in
environmental law including involvement with the Friends of the Wild
Swan.
Mark Alan Wilson. Mr. Wilson is the director of Picture
Tomorrow, a nonprofit organization that provides photographic and
design services to grassroots environmental groups.
Howie Wolke. Mr. Wolke is a wilderness guide and author of Wilderness
On the Rocks and co-author of The Big Outside.
George Wuerthner. Mr. Wuerthner is a widely published writer,
photographer, and ecologist.
Buster Yellow Kidney. Mr. Yellow Kidney is a traditional spiritual
leader within the Blackfeet Tribe. He has also served as a tribal judge
and member of the tribal council.
