AWR Board of Directors

Liz Sedler, President. Liz resides in Sandpoint, Idaho, where in the past she manufactured rough sawn accoustic stringed instrument sound boards and worked with instrument makers doing inlay and finish work. For the past few years she has worked exclusively on conservation issues, lately with a focus on state water quality (Clean Water Act) issues and grizzly bear and bull trout (Endangered Species Act) issues in North Idaho and Western Montana National Forests. She also serves on the board of The Lands Council in Spokane WA.

Brian Horejsi, Vice-President. Brian is a wildlife biologist with a doctorate degree in behavioral ecology of large mammals. He has worked extensively with grizzly and black bears, moose, caribou, bighorn and Dall sheep. He makes his home near Calgary, Alberta. Brian founded the Speak Up for Wildlife Foundation and has a long history as a conservation science activist including a lengthy term as Vice President of the Alberta Wilderness Association.

Mike Bader, Secretary/Treasurer. Prior to becoming the co-founder of Alliance for the Wild Rockies in 1988, Mike was a National Park Ranger in Yellowstone National Park where he was involved in a wide array of activities including grizzly bear management and research, and wildland firefighting. He was also highly active in grassroots efforts to protect the Rocky Mountain Front and the Badger-Two Medicine area from oil and gas development. He is a frequent contributor to magazines, journals, and newspapers on public lands and wildlife issues, having authored dozens of articles. A graduate of the University of Montana with a B.S. in Resource Conservation, his major professional interests are ecosystem protection plans, grizzly bear research and management, and wildland fire. Recreational interests include woodworking, music, sports, cross-country skiing, backcountry hiking, and flyfishing.

Laura Hoehn. Laura Hoehn began her volunteer efforts on behalf of the Northern Rockies in Bozeman, Montana in 1992. While there, she joined with members of the local Sierra Club group to secure the 1994 endorsement of the national Sierra Club on behalf of the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act. She has lobbied for NREPA in Washington, D.C. and has travelled the Yellowstone region to speak on behalf of NREPA with AWR staff members. In addition to serving on the AWR board, she served on the Sierra Club Board of Directors from 1994-1997. She is a graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law and recently completed clerkship at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Laura is an attorney in San Francisco.

Carole King. Carole King is best known as the first woman to capture the grand slam of Grammys: Best Song, Record, Album, and Female Vocalist, for her landmark album, Tapestry; and as a legendary songwriter who has been inducted into the Songwriters' and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame. But King has also been working on land conservation issues since the early '80's and has been an active Board member of the Alliance for the Wild Rockies since 1989. In that capacity King has worked to educate members of Congress and the public about the importance of bills like NREPA that protect entire ecosystems. In 1997 King co-founded the White Cloud Council, to bring together and harmonize the efforts of land conservationists from around the country, and to craft a bold unified vision for protection and restoration of America's wildlands into the next millennium. King continues to write prolifically, most recently contributing "Anyone At All" to the soundtrack of the film, You've Got Mail.
