Alliance for the Wild Rockies was formed in 1988 to meet the challenge
of protecting the Northern Rockies Bioregion from
habitat destruction and deforestation. We are hundreds of organizations
and small businesses, and thousands of individuals joined together in
an ecosystem-based, bioregional effort to protect and restore this great
region. Our board and advisors include some of the nation's top scientists
and land managers.

Web Exhibits
AWR recently celebrated 10 years of working to protect the wild ecosystems
of the Norhtern Rockies. Our Ten
Year Report features our accomplishments to date, and a timeline
of noteable events. A great place to visit if you are considering joining
AWR, and want to know what your contribution will be supporting.
Last summer marked the tenth anniversary of the Great Yellowstone
Fires of '88. AWR has developed a unique website focusing on
this anniversary. It features a review of the fires, eyewitness accounts
of fire fighters and others on the front lines, resources on fire ecology
in the Northern Rockies, and discussions on the politics behind current
fire policy on public lands.
1997's
Great Grizzly Hike was a 300 mile journey along the biological
corridor that links the Yellowstone and the Greater Salmon-Selway Ecosystems.
Three hikers walked the continental divide here to draw attention to
biological corridors, so vital to the great bear's survival. These pages
feature information on grizzlies, corridors, and the hikers' journal
and photos from the trail.
Programs
AWR combines rigorous research with citizen-based advocacy to secure
the ecological integrity of the Northern Rockies Bioregion.
Wild

Campaigns
We focus our efforts on a variety of issues relevant to wildland
protection, choosing some when we see a need while other issues are thrust
upon us by external forces. Our current campaigns include:
NREPA
Our proposal for regional wildlands protection, H.R.
488, the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act, is currently before
the U.S. Congresswith endorsements from President Jimmy Carter, world-renowned
scientists, and more than 700 organizations and businesses nationwide
including the national Sierra Club. Contact
your congress person and ask that they support NREPA. Online
brochure.
Publications
AWR publishes a quarterly newsletter, The
Wild Rockies Networker, and Special
Reports focusing on economics, conservation biology, and on our current
and past campaigns. Video tapes
featuring the Wild Rockies issues and NREPA are also available.
Bioregion Spotlights
Our Bioregion Spotlight focuses on a unique area or species of the
Wild Rockies. Visit past Spotlight features via our Spotlight
