Disgrace to Montana. 25,000 hazardous waste filled railcars pass through Montana each year, on track that may not meet federal rail standards. More toxic chemicals are released per person in Montana than anywhere else in the nation. On April 11th, 1996, the second largest chlorine spill, and the largest mixed chemical release in railroad history took place right here in rural Montana -The Last Best Place. We know first hand the long term physical, financial, and emotional devastation that chemical exposure can create. The
physical damage that can be done to a human being in a few short minutes
of exposure to a toxic plume is irreversible. The continuing tragedy
lies in the Railroad
accident prevention is imperative to protect our children, our quality
of life, and our environment from permanent damage through chemical contamination.
Many Montanans have been forced to relocate because of the existing chemical
contamination of their homes, property, and environment from the Montana
Rail Link chemical spill. Please consider this Montana tragedy and realize what we havelearned the hard way; once a chemical is released, the consequences can be incalculable. Please

it to us.
Our goal is to have the written petitions returned back to the ACCEH office by July 30th, 1998. |
