Summer Solstice Action Training Camp and Wild Rockies Regional Rendezvous

Join us from June 21-24 for an inspiring weekend at the Cove/Mallard Base Camp near Dixie, Idaho next to the heart of the largest roadless area in the lower 48 states. We will have be having workshops on tree climbing, blockades, monitoring timber sales, wild plants, and the EIS (environmental impact statements) process. Also join us for music, beer, hikes, and a chance to see one of the most beautiful and pristine ecosystems left. You are encourage to bring friends, bulk food for the community kitchen, a wild spirit, and a desire to join us in defending the Great Salmon/Selway Ecosystem. After the weekend Wild Rockies Earth First will be sponsoring a direct action tour of the some of the threats that face our Bioregion.

Direct Action Tour:

June 25-July 4: Otter-Wing and Mackey Day Timber Sales-Central Idaho. We will be doing extensive field assessments of the effects of logging from last winter in the area and doing direct action if necessary.. We will also be looking at the Slate Creek Roadless area, where the freddies are planning a massive "restoration project" (i.e., timber sale). This activity represents the first use of the loopholes present in the now tenuous roadless policy.

July 5-July 18: Earth First National Rendezvous- Tetons, WY The group will help set up the site and participate in actions aimed at Oil and Gas leases in the Tetons. (a top priority of the Bush Administration's misguided energy policy).

July 19-25: Boise-Cascade Corporation-Boise, ID. The company is responsible for ecosystem destruction and cultural genocide of indigenous people world wide. Boise Cascade is also the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit opposing the U.S. Government roadless protection policy.

July 25-August 15: Rock Creek Mine-NW Montana. This mine is in the final EIS stage and could be implemented as early as this summer. The mine would go under the Cabinet-Yak wilderness area. Treatment of waste water poses terrible threats to the streams of the area. In addition the location of the mine facilities is in a critical area of grizzly bear habitat.

August 16 to September 16: Bitterroot National Forest-Montana. This project is on a fast track and could be implemented this fall. The current purpose calls for the logging of 65,000 acres yielding 180 million board feet and the reconstruction of 600 miles of logging road to modern industrial standards.

September 17-October 10: Stone Container Pulp Factory-French Town, MT. Stone is one of the worst polluters in the entire Northern Rockies ecosystem and we will serve notice that this is no longer acceptable.
