The Cove/Mallard region is part of the largest roadless area in the lower 48 states, and a vital biological corridor that ties the designated Gospel Hump, Selway-Bitterroot and River of No Return Wildernesses together. The Forest Service is hell-bent on Cove/Mallard's destruction, proposing about 145 miles of new roads and 200 clearcuts, which are incorporated within several timber sales. Only brave citizens, by taking legal action and placing their bodies in the way, have slowed, and so far prevented, Cove/Mallard's complete destruction.
