Our Principles On
Forestry
and Quality of Life
- As explained further in our Code
of Forest Ethics: "All remaining roadless and unlogged
areas must be preserved. The continued march into increasingly scarce
native forest does not promote sustainability."
- On "collaborative stewardship": We will consider collaboration
on any effort that is consistent with our Code of Forest Ethics.
We will not collaborate on planning more logging and road-building in
areas that need time to heal or need active restoration such as road
obliteration and other watershed restoration efforts.
- In terms of "stewardship", we reject the term's emphasis
on "management" andthe arrogance implied in a steward knowing what is
best for the land. We prefer instead to focus on measures that remove
impediments to nature's ability to heal of her own accord.
- We believe that Peace and Quiet are the most rapidly
vanishing resources on Earth. See our Code
of Quiet for simple acts we can endorse and practice
to preserve Peace and Quiet.
