A Closer View

These images show the same cutting units as the previous web page. Again, they show the same exact views two years apart.

This is an even closer view of some of the old growth in 1996, two years after the fire. In the immediate foreground are young trees and brush, which have grown in the opening created by a road that bisects the old growth. They show no effects from the wildfire. Nor can you see any effects of the wildfire on the big trees beyond them.

By 1998, the old growth had been heavily logged. Whereas the Forest Service said the project "would be designed to salvage dead and dying trees" it's clear to see many healthy trees were logged in this old growth area.
